When Super Typhoon Uwan struck, JG Summit Olefins Corporation (JGSOC) demonstrated what it truly stands for—Malasakit and Safety Above All Else.
As storm surges threatened Barangay Simlong, our host community near the Batangas coastline, local officials sought assistance. In response, JGSOC’s Community Relations and Government Affairs team, together with the Manufacturing Leadership Team, acted swiftly to open our doors and provide refuge.
One of the warehouses within the complex was cleaned, secured, and transformed into a safe shelter for 414 evacuees, including children and the elderly. Our teams ensured the availability of water, power, and basic facilities, while implementing strict safety and security protocols. The operation was well-coordinated with barangay officials and local government unit representatives, ensuring the welfare of all evacuees.
Interim Site General Manager Nene A. Guico-Comia shared:
“The typhoon has affected each of us in different ways. In times like these, the protection of life becomes our foremost duty, reaffirming our principle of Safety Above All Else. I am deeply proud of the team’s swift and coordinated actions, and grateful for the opportunity to stand with and support our host community.”
Despite it being a Sunday, the JGSOC Crisis Management Team and Typhoon Watch Team worked tirelessly to coordinate evacuation requirements while safeguarding the plant’s safety and integrity. Their commitment and teamwork truly embody the spirit of Malasakit in action.
Malasakit in Action—Beyond Emergencies
This effort is part of JGSOC’s ongoing commitment to support its host community through various initiatives, including relief efforts during calamities, tree planting and community gardening, annual coastal clean-up, school supply donations, and medical missions.
Mr. Ralph Joseph S. Roy, Director for Government Affairs, Community Relations & Security, emphasized:
“Our response during Super Typhoon Uwan reflects JGSOC’s deep sense of responsibility to our host communities. Through our Abot Kamay program, we champion initiatives in education, environmental protection, and community development. Malasakit is not just a word for us—it is a guiding principle that shapes how we act in times of crisis and in our everyday engagement with the community.”
