JG Summit Olefins Corporation operates the first and only naphtha cracker plant in the Philippines. The naphtha cracker uses Lummus Technology and is designed to primarily produce polymer-grade ethylene and polymer-grade propylene, which are feedstock for the downstream polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) plants.
The naphtha cracker’s other products, pyrolysis gasoline and mixed C4, are converted to intermediate petrochemical products by our extraction facilities within the JG Summit petrochemical complex. Aromatics such as benzene, toluene, mixed xylenes and mixed aromatics are extracted from pyrolysis gasoline in the Aromatics Extraction Unit, while butadiene and raffinate-1 are extracted from mixed C4 through the Butadiene Extraction Unit.
The Naphtha Cracker Plant has total/average capacity of 480 KTA of polymer-grade ethylene, 240 KTA of polymer-grade propylene, 180 KTA of mixed C4 and 250 KTA of pyrolysis gasoline.
With JGSOC’s integrated petrochemical facility, we help maintain supply stability and price competitiveness of commonly used PE and PP resins, supporting the growth of domestic manufacturing industries.
JG Summit Olefins Corporation (JGSOC) is the largest manufacturer of polyolefins in the Philippines. It is the country’s first and only integrated polyethylene and polypropylene manufacturer, with production facilities for HDPE, LDPE, Homopolymer PP, and Random Copolymer PP based on world-renowned UNIPOL™, and bimodal and metallocene PE grades based on MarTECH® Advanced Dual Loop technology.
The broad product portfolio and high production capacities are designed to support local manufacturers downstream by providing a reliable and competitive supply of resins, thus reducing their raw material costs and enabling them to effectively compete with imported products.
Our Aromatics Extraction Plant produces benzene, toluene, mixed xylenes and mixed aromatics. It is the first Aromatics Extraction plant in the Philippines to use GT-BTX® technology licensed from Sulzer GTC.
JGSOC’s Aromatics Extraction Plant has a production capacity of 90 KTA of benzene at/with 99.9% purity, 50 KTA toluene at 99.5% purity, 30 KTA of mixed xylenes and 20 KTA of mixed aromatics.
With the operation of our Aromatics Extraction Plant, it increases domestic capacities for toluene and mixed xylenes, thus promoting supply stability and strong competition in the market. This will benefit key industry applications including paints and adhesives for construction, inks for packaging, as well as chemicals for households and agriculture.
For mixed aromatics, the increased capacity produced by JGSOC opens opportunities to develop these materials as blending components for gasoline, serving as octane boosters.
The Butadiene Extraction Plant, another first in the Philippines, uses the BASF Process, licensed from Lummus Technology. This facility processes mixed C4 from the upstream naphtha cracker to separate and extract the downstream products of butadiene and raffinate-1. JGSOC’s Butadiene Extraction Plant can produce 70 KTA of butadiene and 110 KTA of raffinate-1.
With the first and only Butadiene Extraction Plant in the Philippines, JGSOC aims to support the growth of domestic manufacturing industries and generate interest for future investments downstream, particularly in synthetic rubber production and tire manufacturing.
