Milestones

Since its establishment in 1994, JGSOC has emerged as the leading force in the petrochemicals sector in the Philippines. Let’s delve into the company’s history over the past three decades.

1994

JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation (JGSPC) was a joint venture between JG Summit Holdings, Inc. (JGSHI) and Marubeni Corporation of Japan. The Board of Investments (BOI) approved the registration for JGSPC's polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) projects.

1998

PE and PP plants with production capacities of 175,000 kTA and 180,000 kTA, respectively, commence commercial operations. The PE and PP resins produced are marketed under the brand name EVALENE®.

1999

JGSPC has started selling EVALENE® PE and PP resins to export markets. EVALENE® PE and PP secured certifications for suitability for food contact from the Philippine Bureau of Food and Drugs (now Philippine Food and Drug Authority)

2000

JGSPC is certified to ISO 9002 for Quality Assurance System.  Launched "Abot Kamay" the company’s flagship CSR program.

2002

The coastal preservation program "Artificial Reef Project" has been launched.

2005

JGSPC is certified to ISO 14001 for Environmental Management Systems.

2007

JGSHI buys out Marubeni Corporation’s 17.72% stake in JGSPC. JGSPC became a wholly owned subsidiary of JGSHI.

2008

Established JG Summit Olefins Corporation (JGSOC).

2011

BOI approved the registration of the Naphtha Cracker Project of JGSOC.

2012

BOI approved the registration of JGSPC's Polymer Plants Expansion Project.

2013

Completed the capacity expansion for JGSPC Polymer Plants, making the new capacities as follows: PE: 320,000 kTA and PP: 190,000 kTA.

2014

JGSOC and JGSPC have started integrated operations with the commencement of commercial operations of JGSOC's Naphtha Cracker and JGSPC's expanded Polymer plants. JGSOC started selling pygas and ethylene to export markets, while JGSPC was issued its first Halal certifications for EVALENE® PE and PP. 

2015

JGSPC and JGSOC are certified by Integrated Management Systems for Quality (ISO 9001). JGSOC started selling mixed C4 and propylene to export markets.  The environmental program “One Million Trees Project” has been launched. 

2016

BOI approved the registration of JGSPC's Butadiene and Aromatics Extraction Projects.

2017

BOI approved the registrations of JGSPC's Bimodal PE project, the expansion of existing PP plants, and JGSOC's Naphtha Cracker plant (NCP).

2018

JGSOC and JGSPC are certified by the Occupational Health and Safety Management System under OHSAS 18001.

2019

JGSPC partners with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for its Adopt-a-Wetland Program to rehabilitate Wetland No. 8 on Boracay Island.

2020

Expanded the capacity of the NCP from 320 kTA to 480 kTA and PP Plant from 190 kTA to 300 kTA. Peak Fuel Corporation was incorporated to be the fuels trading arm of JGSOC.

2021

Start of commercial operations for the expanded NCP; expanded PP Plant, and Aromatics Extraction Facility. JGSOC and JGSPC are certified to ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety Management System. 

2022

Merger of JGSPC and JGSOC, with JGSOC as the surviving entity. 

2023

JGSOC started commercial operations of its new 250 kTA Bimodal PE plant.

2024

Inauguration of the expanded Petrochemicals manufacturing complex led by Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. JGSOC’s EVALENE PLUS® received Environmental Claim Validation certification issued by the UL Solutions.
